To create a shallow depth of field I used an f stop of f/5.6. The top two photos on the left were a shallow depth of field. The white balance was set to fluorescent for most of my photos. The top two on the right were a larger depth of field with an f stop of f/23. The white balance was also set to fluorescent. The shallow depth of field is better because it looks more interesting with a portion of the photo blurred rather than the whole photo in focus. I would want to use a shallow depth of field because you can focus more on one object and create a focal point in the photo. A large depth of field can be used if you're taking a photo of a lot of objects at once that all need to be in focus.
