Line and shape are the strongest aspects in this photo. The books create lines of different thicknesses and lengths. This contrasts with the circle shape of the scale. I took this photo in the late afternoon so the light was getting low and cast shadows across the shelf. When I converted the photo to black and white, the shadows got darker creating a more dramatic look. The focus of the photo is on face of the scale because it is the only contrasting shape and is the brightest object in the photo. Also when I took the photo i kneeled on the floor so my camera would be even with the shelf. I tried to only frame the shelf in the shot but i ended up having to crop out some extra space. The photo is interesting because the scale isnt an every day object and is something different to look at. The dark shadows and strong lines hold the viewers attention and create a mysterious, melancholy mood.
Technical aspects of the photo: Only the shells in the very front are in focus because of the shallow depth of field and you can see the detailed edges and textures of them.
Composition: The focal point of the photo is the jar of shells because there is nothing else in the background.
Artistic Qualities: the most interesting thing about the photo is that its almost hard to tell if the jar is laying down or is standing straight up because of the lack of background. If the shells werent all to one side it would look like an overhead view of the jar standing straight up

The strongest aspects of this photo is the lines and shadows. I took this photo of the shadows cast on my bed from the shades in the window. It was around noon time so the light in my room was off but the light outside was bright and reflected off the snow on the ground. I wasnt planning to take any photos so the only camera i had was my phone. it captured the photo the way i wanted it to, the whole shadow of the window covering the bed. The way that the sheets arent smooth causes the lines to be curved or broken in places which looks better than straight harsh lines. Again the black and white creates a darker mood in the photo. When i changed it to black and white, the background disappeared which made the shadows on the bed the main focus. I feel like it was an interesting point of view because i was standing where the source of light was coming from but my shadow is not visible in the photo.
Technical aspects of the photo: The photo was originally just of one pair of legs cast with shadows from the window shades. the contrast of dark shadow and light makes the photo interesting and unique.
Composition: The point of view was from my face looking down at my legs and they are the main focus because when i converted to black and white the background because too dark to see.
Artistic Qualities: the reflection of the photos create and interesting subject and the joining of the lines at the point of reflection create an interesting design.

The best part of this photo are the shadows across vanessa's face that create mystery. The fact that half of her face is in shadow makes it look more dramatic than if it was well lit. Even though she is smiling she is looking down which makes you wonder about her thoughts. Only half of her is in the light which is coming from the right side. this makes the lightened parts of her face the main focus of the photo because everything else is dark and black in shadow. the photo was taken from a little farther away to capture her body language as well as her facial expression. This adds more to the photo because you can tell that she is sitting and bent forward a little bit.
Technical Aspects: The lighting of the actual portrait photo was very well lit and bright because it was taken with studio lights. The overlayed photo was taken with a slow shutter speed and i swung a string of lights like a jump rope around the camera lens. After I double exposed them i used the hardlight filter to change the contrast of the colors.
Composition: After double exposing the photos i erased the rest of the colored lights so they are only on my face and shoulders and the background is completely white and not distracting from the main focus.
Artistic Qualities: the fact that the colors of the photo make my skin look green and colored makes the photo interesting and unique.
