line and shape- black and white
line and shape- color
I took my photos for this assignment at my grandparent's house in Somerset. I chose to go there to take photos because their house is really old and I thought I would find cool subject matter. My first photo is of a bookshelf in their living room. I'm not really sure where the scale came from or what it is for but it has been there as long as I can remember. When I converted the photos to black and white I darkened the colors and shadows to make the lighting look more dramatic. The second photo I took was of a closet in their house. I tried to take a couple of photos before I realized that the light bulb actually turned on and I think it made the photo better. I liked it a little better in color which is why I added all of the original photos at the bottom. The third photo I took was of a rug in their living room. The lines from the hardwood floor blend with the lines of the rug and when I converted it to black and white I darkened the shadows to make it look more dramatic. The fourth photo I took was from the inside of the garage and I liked the contrast of the lines on the window and the criss cross of the fence in the background. The fifth photo I took I also liked better in color because it was the hedge outside. I liked the cloud in the background from a plane going by. The last photo I took was by far my favorite. It was a container of spools of thread from my grandma's sewing machine. I didn't touch them I just left them how they were messily in the box and I really liked the way it looked. My first photo of the bookshelf and the photo of the window I took from straight on. The photo of the closet and of the hedges I took from me standing and the camera facing upward. The photo of the rug and the spools of thread were from above. I didn't take all of my photos horizontally but the 6 I happened to choose were horizontal. I tried to consider the rule of thirds in most of my photos. I think the photo of the bookshelf was the most dynamic and leads your eye through the photo, from the books to the scale.
